Having a nice long commute across three quarters of the Singapore island to work every day has given me plenty of time to listen in to a number of great podcasts.
There are quite a lot of casts around but here is the list of the top ones I find useful for tips and inspiration.
1. This Week in Photography
Probably the most iconic of photography podcasts. Hosted by Frederick Van Johnson and Alex Lindsay. This cast has a great range of topics from the week. It always plays host to interesting and experienced guests such as Joe McNally, Nicole Young, Syl Arena.
The regular format covers key news items in the photographic world every week as well as some awesome tips on gear and stuff at the end.
2. Cameradojo
Kerry Garrison has been on TWIP but runs his own cast over at his website. Kerry has less guests at a single time but spends more time drilling down on a specific topic. A recent show with Syl Arena spent the full hour talking about small light techniques and tips and gadgets for speedlite photography.
Kerry runs his own business providing some pretty cool photography gear off his site as well.
3. Lenswork
Lenswork podcasts feature short four to ten minute insights from the editor of Lenswork. Lenswork magazine focuses on fine art photography. It produces a high quality photo print magazine and despite the short episodes on the podcast there are a couple of great little tips from the very experienced Brooks Jensen.
4. The Lenswipe
OK this podcast is a bit goofy and the guys who run it are clearly at the younger end of the age spectrum. However I like it for the fact that clearly the two leads are living the dream and putting in the yards. They have kids and families and making a life and living from photography. Their insights are in-line with what many of us think and this provides a nicely light counterpoint to the others but no less informative and useful keeping up the inspiration.
Listening to these podcasts helps provide an ability to not just stay in touch with what is going on in the photography world, but also to stay focussed on the art and get views from others in the world of photography.
